The next director’s meeting will be held
April 9th at
Oscar’s in Grangeville. A no-host dinner will begin at 6:00, the
meeting will begin at 7:00. We hope to have someone on hand to discuss
proposed changes to the Federal Clean Water Act. Congress is
considering doing away with the requirement that the waters be
“navigable” in order to be regulated by the federal government.
We will also be discussing the proposed increase in the Beef
Checkoff Program. A letter received by the ICA stated that the program
began with the 1985 farm bill and has remained at $1 per head since that
time. It currently takes $2.11 to buy the same that $1 did in 1985.
That, among other reasons are the arguments for the proposed $1 increase
in the checkoff. Attend the meeting to find out more and voice your
opinion to an ICA leader below.

May 07
A
director’s meeting was held at Keuterville’s Pub and Grub on May 10.
Cody Howard, son of Mike and Gayle of Nezperce won the scholarship
this year. He was one of 7 applicants. Two were from Nezperce and five
from Cottonwood. Cody is featured on page one.
As of the meeting, there were 167 paid up members.
Jim Church attended the meeting and discussed some projects he is
working on. He was interested in having the ILCCA co-sponsor the Steer
of Merit program which is discussed in further detail on page two. It
was motioned and approved that we sponsor this project. Directors from
Lewis County are interested in having the program next year, and will be
looking into getting it started there as well. Jim also spoke with the
directors about an extended fall grazing experiment. Jim is working
with a few area farmers to plant a foliage plant after wheat harvest.
He is trying for a grant to pay for seed and fertilizer. The experiment
is to see if our area can be more competitive with other areas as far as
grazing cattle. Many other places feed hay for only 3 months, while we
typically feed for 5-6 months. Along with that he is also looking at
earlier weaning. The extended grazing project will be a three-year
project. Jim plans to have crop tours on the Prairie and at Spalding
this fall.
January 07
A directors meeting
was held late in January to discuss the year's upcoming events. See the
Calendar of Events
page for dates and times.
The Team Penning
event held in September is transitioning. The directors are looking
into other horse-related events that would work well for kids. It will
be discussed more at the next directors meeting. |
